Love for all seasons
If love were a season…..
It wouldn’t choose just one
In spring:
Love is new, like little sprouts breaking through cold soil
Spring delights with fragrance and childhood laughter
It irritates with pollen, thorns, and sprained knees
If love were spring, it would be sweet, stubborn, and wild
In Summer:
Love is ablaze with new responsibilities, the burn of growth
Sunburns, flaring tempers, scorching conditions. Stinging wasps
It takes forever, yet speeds by with early adulthood and raising families
late-night porch talks and barefoot freedom balance the heat
If love were summer, it would be loud, bright, and unruly
In Autumn:
Love is wisdom, the quieter confidence of midlife
Love is harvesting what was planted in earlier seasons
It is the deeper breaths in the cool, clean air
The body whispers its age while the heart learns to understand
The spirit releases what is no longer needed through the wind
In Autumn, love is the color we earn.
In Winter:
Love becomes truth…..forgiveness….peace
It is the snow erasing old footprints and cherishing the new impressions
The joy that comes with grandchildren and living in the moment
The dormant gray branches may no longer be pretty, but stay proud and strong
No need to chase anything; instead……learning to rest
In winter, love is soft blankets, warm beverages,,,,
In winter, love is accepting that endings are not loss, but a time to rest
If love were a season, it wouldn’t choose just one
Instead, it chooses four
Four strands of strong cord
Like hemp, cotton, leather and twine
woven together to create a macrame
that lives on for generations to come…..
